Our Search is over!!

Welcome Home Tavi!
Today we finally found the newest edition to our family. Hes a red and white Kitten with gold eyes, and he's beautiful. He's also got something called Cerebellar Hyperplasia. Mean's little man falls down a lot, and has poor balance.[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebellar_hypoplasia_%28non-human%29 - for more info]. But I don't care. He has my heart.

When we got to Petco and met the wonderful people at Frisky Whiskers Cat Rescue, [http://www.facebook.com/pages/Frisky-Whiskers-Cat-Rescue], I knew the organization was something I certainly wouldn't mind shelling out the money to. And then I met the little man, who at that point was known affectionately as "Wiggs"...and I fell in love. I took one look at that kitten and knew he was the one. We had spent almost a year looking, talking, considering, even fostering someone at one point - looking for a little brother for Gelphy and for a kitten of my own.  (Gelphy is, from nose to tail tip, his daddy's kitten.)'

While I filled out the paperwork, agreeing to love this little man forever, (no problem there), I reluctantly handed the little man to Justin, My boyfriend of 5 years. The kitten promptly snuggled into his arms and fell asleep. He'd found his home too.

We finished the paperwork, and the micro-chipping (Ack! hard for mom to watch!), and picked up a few specialty items for the little man, and were on our way. We left with our hearts on our sleeves, this little man was exactly what we were looking for!

Rare for two twenty-somethings we ordered a pizza and snuggled into our apartment for a Saturday night, unwilling to be separated from our new addition.

The initial meeting with Big Brother Gelphy went better than expected. Of course, he hissed, and sulked most of the night, but he didn't attack, and didn't seem to HATE the idea. We made sure to pet him as often as he would allow.

We talked about names. Justin believes that all kittens already have a name, they just have to tell you. This is true, and when I looked at Tavi, I knew his name was TAVI. The name is short for Octavian, A character in Jim Butcher's Fantasy series, The Codex Alera. Tavi in the book is weak and unsure of his path in the beginning, but in the later books grows to be a great, powerful king, and a wonderful person with a good heart. This suits our little man.

We spent the evening Bonding.

Rather, he spent the evening sleeping. He had a LONG day.

I built him a nest to sleep in for the night. And he settled in comfortably and happily.

What a wonderful little man. We're So, So lucky!!!

I've elected to update this blog as I can, so that people know how awesome kittens with cerebellar hyperplasia are- - they are wonderful! These kittens should never be put down just because of some bad balance!
